The iPhone has inevitably become one of the most sought after gadgets. With everything you could ever need in one tiny device, you'll be hard pushed at wanting to buy anything else. With the technology industry pushing for 'convergence' (everything in one) it makes me wonder, how far will they go? Already you can play thousands of games, it can help you cook the most amazing 20 person meal if required, get you out of traffic jam and even startlingly start your car and drive it … With over 90,000 applications to choose from, it's a whole new platform … the internet should beware, with the likes of Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Hotmail, and many high street stores accessible at just the touch of a button.

A new iPhone application has been launched to help motorists locate their nearest automated registered mechanic. The application requests you to input your postcode in return for a list of nearby technicians approved by ATA (Automotive Technicians Accredited). There are currently 18,000 technicians, all of whom are assessed every 5 years and have the appropriate skills to fix whatever problem they can.

Amongst many of the applications, there are those which keep you current, great for the outdoors, students, parents, work, traveling, managing the finances, going out and even working out. Technology has evolved to the point where imagination is the only thing slowing the gadget world down. An application has even been developed for those concerned with their Carbon Footprint, called Carticipate; it brings fellow commuters together in a large social network of individuals looking to save money on fuel whilst also contributing to the environment. There are hundreds of car applications, even ones that tell you the current gas prices, and even ones that keep you informed of your finance option.

While the iPhone truly is the essence of a smart phone, with easy accessibility and a memory filled with features, it's a device which boasts practicality and just downright fun. We all wondered how we managed without a mobile phone 10 years ago, now we're beginning to wonder how we would meet without the iPhone.
