Technology is changing the way we do just about everything like driving, banking, and even getting prescriptions. One of the bigger changes is applications we use on our Smartphone. These apps can do just about anything, and whatever you are trying to do, there is probably an app for that. So, what does that mean for nursing or those in the medical field? There are many apps that can be helpful for any type of nurse.
Epocrates is a very popular app for nurses. This company has many different versions available for different phones, and some are free versions. What does it do? It has a large database of over 3,500 drugs so you can check for formula information and any drug interactions. This app will also update regularly for any updates and will check for any medical news.
Nursing Central is one that every necessity should have. Unboud Medicine's app Nursing Central has a lot of different features including: information on everything from diseases and drugs, a leading dictionary, a study system, and a search engine for medical literature. This app is available for iPhones, iPods, Android phones, Windows phones, and Blackberry. Nursing central does cost about $ 160 but also comes with a year subscription.
The ADAM Symptom Navigator is next on our list. This is a free app that is available for the iPod Touch and iPhone. If you have ever used the symptom finder on Webmd, then you will know how to use this app. It is easy to use and helps you quickly give an accurate diagnosis of a patient's condition or problem. Of course, you can use it to determine what may be ailing you as well.
Anything that once was paper has simply become a file that can easily be saved, printed, and emailed for a faster transference of information. Well, there is an app that takes it a step further. iChart is an app for iPhone users that can keep track of patient's lab reports, prescription information, any notes on the patient, and even keep track of their billing information. You can do this by using the modules that com along with it, iPrescribing, iLab Reports, iBilling, and iNotes. The app does come at a price though, about $ 140 for this wonderful personal medical assistant.
The last app on our list can be used by just about anyone, not just nurses, but in an emergency, it can help medical professionals out a lot. The ICE app allows you to put important information into one location so that emergency and medical personnel can quickly find out who you are and who your emergency contacts are. The app allows for you to create personalized labels so that you can put in information like your next of kin, medications you are on, any allergies or drug allergies that you may have, or any pre-existing conditions you may have like diabetes, Alzheimer's , heart disease, or asthma. As stated before, this is a great app for anyone and everyone. Nurses can use it to check incoming patient's information that may be unconscious or are too hurt to respond.
