Rumors having been flying in addition to the HTC Flyer tablet and the Nexus S 4g, Sprint could soon be launching the Evo 3D smartphone as the true successor to Evo 4g. Last year at CTIA the original Evo 4g was introduced, which is leading some to believe that the stage is set for this year's show. All eyes will be on Sprint for an update on their flagship smartphone.

Not too much is known at this time about the Evo 3D although Engadget is reporting that this phone may have a 3D display and / or 3D capabilities such as 3D photo and 3D video capture. Also, HTC is the company that bought the Evo 4g to Sprint and it is expected that the Evo 3D will come from them as well. HTC continues to make headway in the world of smartphones.

When the Evo 4g was introduced last year at CTIA it brought to the table a list of features that were innovative and intelligent. We saw the 4g wimax support, mobile hotspot support and more. With newer phones such as the Motorola Atrix 4g and the even newer HTC Thunderbolt some of these competitive features have been eroded. With that being said, it is reasonably Sprint will be turning to 3D, and possibly to glasses-free 3D smart screens, to gain back that competitive edge.

If Sprint succeeds in launching the Evo 3D smartphone here in the US it's possible that it will start the 3D mobile experience across the country. Driving other competitors to move forward with what 3D technology they currently have. Other 3d smartphones have been launched in places like the Galapagos but nothing to date on the US market.

Another possible partner along HTC for the Evo 3D is LG. They have already developed the Optimus 3D smartphone which has a dual-core gigahertz chipset from Texas Instruments. LG has yet to announce any carrier partners for this phone. Sharp has also said it will bring the Galapagos 3D smartphones to the US market in 2011.

The current 3D phones require glasses and can be turned to 2D for standard viewing. When the first 3D smartphones are launched here in the US the phone will require apps, videos and other media content that take advantage of the 3D capable screen. It's likely the market will rise quickly and the 3D revolution will be in full swing.
