Dell was one of the first vendors rolling out colored laptops on a larger scale away from their Alienware Gaming Unit, which trademark color is black and bright red.
Dell also has created a special set of pink laptop covers and accessories for the popular fundraising cause Susan G Komen for the Cure. Dell Promise Pink is donating $ 10 for every purchase of one of their pink covers or accessories. That is a sizable 30% donation on most of their items. In this last year alone every manufacturer seems to be getting into the ring with their own series of colored laptops, especially pink laptops. It's amazing to see the frenzy of manufacturer's to play catch up with colorful mobile device designs.
It took them almost 20 years of building computers before they figured out that color sells, and color / style and design of computers matters. Gone are the days of gray and black boxes.
Now on a funny note, Apple is going the opposite way. Their hottest model is the MacBook pro black.
But in general think of the car world. Did they only produce black and white models? Why it took computer companies so long to figure this out is a mystery to me.
Pink Laptops are hot
For several years, Disney princess designs in pink and white lettering have been available. They used to charge a ton of additional money for these models. Then Dell came along and started to shatter the market by charging only $ 28 for nice retrofit hard covers that could change the color of their Inspiron and Studio XPS laptops, in a matter of seconds.
Even worse for these manufacturers, companies like Skinit.com decided to create thousands of skins for any device, even your boom box, mobile phone, basically anything electronics, and at prices way lower than anyone else of course. You can even come up with your own design on their website.
Sony then decided to go one step further with the Viao Y series. When you order a pink laptop or any other color, you can have the machine engraved with anything you want before shipping. It delays the delivery time, but in turn you can get a great name personalized gift for someone you like.
Since the arrival of colorful Asus Eee series netbooks everyone sees to try to catch up. ASUS produced the Disney Netpal 8.9 "Princess Pink, appealing to young girls and the ASUS Eee PC 10.1 inch with Karim Rashid Design Pink for users requiring more speed.
Dell Inspiron series laptops are no longer the only reasonably priced choice for a colored laptop . Toshiba and Lenovo offer brown and red laptop as their primary colors. In contrast, Dell produces a whole spectrum of color choices. Gateway has some very stylish colored laptops ranging from pink to purple. Sony offers a wide range of colors but you pay for it big time.
Right now prices have come down tremendously, and it is a great time to get a pink laptop choices.
