Bluetooth is another standard wireless protocol through which networking can be achieved. Most of the mobile phones are now Bluetooth enabled one and it offers an easy way of content sharing.

One advantage of Bluetooth is that it does not consume much of the mobile phones power as the Bluetooth dongles have separate power and the mobile phone only loses 1 mill watt power. Bluetooth is basically a radio frequency standard communication. It provides a mutual agreement at the physical layer, there is also an agreement that is set up at the protocol level.

The agreement at the protocol level simply defines how many messages can be sent at the same time, how many devices can communicate at the same time. Bluetooth was basically found to overcome the disadvantages that Infrared had but then it could provide a data speed of 1 Mega bits per second in version 1. Bluetooth version 2 could provide a data speed of 3 Mega bits per second. Bluetooth 2.0 is backward compatible with Bluetooth 1.0.

The major disadvantage that infrared had been that it had line of sight technology, which is nothing but the sender and receiver should be in the same straight line. Bluetooth based GPS systems, Bluetooth headsets and Bluetooth dongle for providing PC connectivity are the commonly used Bluetooth based devices. Most of the mobile phones are connected to the PC via Bluetooth rather than data cable this is because, Bluetooth is a standard as long as you can connect it through a standard, the simpler it becomes. To the same PC many mobiles can be connected via Bluetooth but via data cable we can not connect more than four mobiles at the same time.
